So, this is going to be a big post on Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis’s December update. And my thoughts about it are that I have a lot I want to say because I know other players were not too pleased by the headline. I would even say some were disappointed by the headline.
This blog post will be me talking about what I liked and didn’t like, what was good to show off and what was not good to show. I want to share my thoughts on the headline and what I’m looking forward to, in my opinion.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis: Headline
Let me set the stage. It is 7:59 Am, and players are waiting for the headline before some sleep, going to work, or starting their morning. A lot of people have seen the update video prior to the headline. And if you are wondering, what video? I got you.
— Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis – Global (@play_pso2) September 16, 2022
We all saw the Stia trailer two months ago. And we knew about the class changes. Well, almost everyone knew. Back to the matter. It hits 8 Am, but we have to wait 8 mins for it to go live. Also, you need to subscribe to the chat for a day to chat.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. I talk about this game a lot. It is almost like I play it or something. I want to talk about some cool things coming to Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis that are worthy of note imo. And talking about burnout.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis October update
There is a new level cap. Go from level 60 to 65. And gain a bit more power and class rebalanced, and all weapons from rarity 1 to 6 can become level 60 with level 5 potential, which can be a placeholder if you can’t get a rarity 7 weapon, and on that note. It can put a 6-star weapon somewhat close to a 7-star weapon.
Rarity 7 weapons are here, new ones as rare drops at the moment. It is unknown if these will be stronger than Kaizaar weapons or not. And since you can get the new weapons for free (once for each class) by clearing the tower content with x class when the new tower comes out in the October update.
PSE bar will stay at level 2 and will go no lower than that. PSE Burst will happen by clearing a trigger NPC quest in combat zones. PSE Encores will have in all combat level zones. Speaking of PSE, there is a new one, PSE Burst f (forte)
And Rank 4 zones.
There is a lot of new content. And QoL changes coming soon. But at the same time, I’m feeling burnt out playing Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. Been feeling this way, and probably does not help that I have a lot of games to play. Elsword, Fate, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, genshin. And have a lot of things I want to do as well.
I thought about dropping Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis for a while, And I still have that thought because I’m tired of the game. The gameplay loop went from fun to somewhat enjoyable to not fun. So taking a break after maint starts will be good for the soul, and shutting out Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is what I need. I suppose.
Hey, so I am late for the party but don’t worry. Let’s talk about Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. It has been a while since I have done that, and I want to share my thoughts. And wonder about some things and answer a good question.
Wind Waker class
So this class is a summoner class from base Phantasy Star Online 2 but without feeding your pet junk. Waker uses no elements like fire, ice, lighting, and so on. It relies on the summoned pets to do the damage, but that’s not to say the waker class is weak. You can do some good damage with or without*.
To me, personally. Waker feels like a faster Force class. It has a lot of combos, single targets, and multi targets attacks. It’s fast, and strong but can drain pp like nothing. Waker can proc physical downs on enemies who can be weak to physical downs, of course. Not all bosses and enemies will have a physical down stat that is easy to proc but it will take time, but that’s it.
Some of the waker’s class skills are pretty great and make waker class strong.
You have three pets, and next to them is a counter. Get a stack of 1 melee and range, and you can use the fourth skill.
The fourth skill does a lot of burst damage. It can use one attack, but it is good damage. Great to use when the boss is in a broken guard state or a down state to get in that extra damage.
The yellow pet icon is your weapon action that acts as a negate to void all damage and add a stack to the counter. And as for the last skill on the far right. It is a better version of the weapon action with cooldown but only uses it if you think you don’t have enough time.
Sonic Origins is one of the most awaited games because people had access to the ports of Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and finally, Sonic 3 and knuckles all remastered and ready for game fronts like steam, PlayStation, and so on.
But there is something off here about the release of this collection, and what a great way to share the experience I had with the game. And look, if this is your first time playing the classic sonic games. or you never played them but wanted to, well now you got a chance to do so.
And yes, there are older collections out there that have Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and knuckles, and sonic 3 and knuckles. However, if you wanted to play the Sonic 1 & Sonic 2 mobile remastered ports, you would need to get Sonic Origins or buy them off the mobile stores.
It is time to be cool. New genesis dropped the new update and content. And I want to talk about it and share my thoughts on it and what have you. There is a lot of good content in this update. It has been the awaited update and content and I am just one of many who have thoughts on this update. There is a lot to talk about here.
I will start with the good things here.
The good things
Level 60 cap. You can do more damage and reach a higher level of power and farming has been made easy. Yellow triggers give you the full amount of exp and got rid of the Exp reduction which is a godsend.
Well, it is time to talk about Phantasy Star Online 2: New genesis (Again) and one of the big updates that have come with it, and just share some extra thoughts and whatnot. And the changes here are “big” for what it is worth.Â
And given that this update is part one and part 2 is dark falz and something else, there are a few things here worth of note and some things that are not worth a mention in my opinion.
Jukebox mag
Ever wanted to play your music in Phantasy Star Online 2: new genesis but got tired of opening up links on youtube, Spotify, that shady video site? Well, now you don’t have to do that. With the new feature added by this update, you can play the music that you got in-game. And if you are like me, and never brought any CDs for your jukebox in base phantasy. This feature might be useless to you.
You can change what the current theme is, by picking your song and confirming this is the song you want to play. Some themes will override the jukebox feature, as they have higher priority. Nothing game-changing here.
You are better off using youtube, Spotify, or a discord music bot for music needs. This is a feature for those who love the jukebox in base Phantasy Star Online 2 and want it on the go. And unlike base Phantasy Star Online 2, only you can hear the music playing from your mag. Friends and strangers can’t hear the music from the mag jukebox when it drops those sick beats. Only the user of their mag can hear the music playing.
Let’s do something new. So I talked about Mining Rig Defense in NGS. I figured I talk about it again, lol.
What is Mining Rig Defense?
The Mining Rig Defense is an urgent quest in Phantasy Star Online 2: new genesis, where two teams must defend three mining rigs from enemies that come in waves. Tower defense but in 3d. And you have to protect the rigs up to wave 8 being the last wave.
My way of doing Mining Rig Defense
There are some ways to do this, so I have one way going about this. And this way is something I use more often.
MPA with Witching Hour (Joining an MPA with some members feels like a public party).
Oh boy. If I have to pair up with Witching Hour members. My playstyle changes based on how people play.
I pick a mining rig to protect or land. This can change if I am needed elsewhere, like midlane or toplane
If people ignore charging towers, I will make a dash for it which throws me off my groove.
If I am defending a mining rig and the other rigs come under attack, I will prioritize which one needs help if the current rig I’m defending is safe or clear
I do not hold Wave 6 and 8 bosses as I focus on smaller enemies or the mini-bosses.
If at any time, my plan has to change because ppls don’t remember to attack towers that are charging up. It will throw me out of my groove.
Ideally, 3 users should watch mining rigs, and the other three should go to the top, and the rest handle and collect. But what ends up happening is some members aren’t geared up or leave their post to attack enemies, leaving their mining rig open to get hit.
///Rant\\\
Time for a rant. So, doing Mining base with the guild is a mixed bag. And, it is why a lot of the time. I do not want to join the mining base defense quest. I will never know if I will end up wasting time babysitting mining rigs and having my day ruined.
Or if I join, then it will be a pretty fast urgent quest where players are competent in their skills and gear. And they are not leaving mining rigs unguarded for attacks.
But with my experience in past urgent quests, they take too long. You are casual, great. You do you. I will not tell you to change but, this makes me not want to join people because it is such a gamble for me to join. If I wanted to waste my time. I wish to have fun doing it.
As we all know, having the best gear is good, having good gear is good too. It keeps you alive longer, and certain gear will buff your attack power in range, tech, or melee. And it is important to know what class that you want to play so you can gear it up to be ready to use well. Pick a class and sub-class, and mess around with it till you find a main class and sub-class you like.
Having units and weapons below max level is a big no-no. Hey, you! Yeah, you. Buying fashion? Focus on getting gear. If you can’t carry your weight, and that means your gear is not +40 and the weapon is not potential 4. You may /or will be doing next to nothing, and that right there is deadweight, and you don’t want to be a deadweight.
If you are wondering what a deadweight is, I will give you the meaning in my terms. A deadweight is a person who is there but can’t offer any use or support to the team. They can’t pull their weight.
We doing something different here. I will make this a long post. And take this with a grain of salt. This post is by no means a perfect guide. It’s more of a rant that has a few tips peppered into this post.
Editor’s Note: This guide is for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis before the winter update. This guide may or may not become outdated after the winter update. And big thanks to Aluria proof checking it, and helping me with this guide.
Disclaimer: This is a guide/rant about some Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis junk. Maybe you will find it helpful? And to be clear, this is just a bare baseline on what you should do. I have just been playing the game and been getting help from my friend, Aluria. And that I have a “basic” idea, and I’m tired of guild members wiping out like flies, lol.
Augments on your gear or lack thereof
So, this part is going to anger some members, but I think I don’t care. So I have not only noticed users not having any augments on their gear but have had the unfortunate experience of being in a party with them.
It’s not fun playing with them and before I go on a rant. First off. Have augments on your gear. That means your weapon and units. It’s shocking to see players running around with 0 to 4 augments on their gear.
If you can’t get the best augments, you can get the second-best or at the very least, get some augments that give damage. The point is, have augments on your gear, it really does help out, and on the plus side having augments will help you and your team out.
Plus, you won’t look like a deadweight if someone checks your gear and see you have little to no augments. But of course, having augments is not all you need to contribute to your team and be of use. There is more to it.
You might say “But Ony, I don’t play pso2 new genesis TM for that long. I buy fashion then gear later.” Ok, in that case, I got some options for you. And these are free options.
You can ask for help. Closed mouths don’t get fed. If you choose to stay quiet, then how can you get advice? More later on.
Look up the augments online, and find what works for you in terms of augments. Again, ask for help, if you are unsure. And check the player market, if you can’t get the best augments, you can at the very least, get something worth the money, and no, not fashion.
As someone who never used a range build. I could lay down a base guideline to get you started on the right path
Same as before, if you are rich, you can go for this build here. You don’t even have to be rich. Just save up money instead of burning it on fashion, BAKA!
Here are some augments that you will want to have if you are using a tech-based class. And what I understand. If you have the mesta, you can go for this build
If you want the bare minimum and super cheap because you spend money on fashion to look good but be completely useless in action. Here is the BARE MINIMUM
Technique 1 > Meltech Dualble 1 > Nex Soul 1 > resola note /or tech III, > giga tech I > resola note > and nex soul I
You can ask around and look or do research on augments, as this is something I learned from my friend, Aluria. Just an idea of what you should get. Research, take notes, ask around. Something to think about lol. And keep in mind the market will spike in a while, so be on the lookout.
What each unit does for you, and depends on your playstyle.
Make sure your gear has augments. Please, please make sure you have augments on your gear. I said this before but please. I say this cause I have seen users’ units and weapons look like this. Don’t do this, and by this, I mean have little to no augments. see the following images below. please try to fill out all 3 slots or 4, if able.
missing augments, and most likely can be one shot.
missing augments
Weapon is good but not +40, missing a extra augment slots. Units are the bare minimum here.
Glass cannon. Weapon is not enhanced, no augments on weapon and little to no augments on units.
Not good but not bad. This NEEDS work. Weapon with no augments = bad! potential level should be 3 at least. units should be level 40 or 30 with augments slots filled
Almost right, even though one of the units has no augments
Huh? Weapon is base level with no augments. Two of the units are meant to be used as exp fodder, and not real gear. Augments on said gear are lacking.
I showed you the bad of having gear that has bad stats, let me should you what it should look like that has good stats.
The bare minimum you should have is as follows, if you don’t have a lot of mesta.
Pictures provided by Aluria
this can take around 30k mesta and depends on market or the fact you already have some of the augments laying around.
What your augments should be like. And yes, Using augments that increase the range of damage is better then using augments that boost defense as they do not matter much in early game, and you are better off having good augments that give damage.
Above the bare minimum. If you can afford it, try this out. This is affordable, but check market, if you saved up mesta and not blowing it on fashion. You can get this.
The idea here is to focus on getting the most out of your gear with augments.
And if you got the mesta and more than 1m you can try this. This is my force units below. Now, this is not the best but for what it does, I can clear most of the content in New Genesis with friends or whatnot.
Again, my gear is good enough to do content in the game.
Weapon level +40 – Affixes 4/4 – (fixa is optional but not needed) – potential level 4
unit level +40 – affixes 4/4 – (fixa is optional but not needed)
unit level +40 – affixes 4/4 – (fixa is optional but not needed)
unit level +40 – affixes 4/4 – (fixa is optional but not needed)
What have we learned? Always have augments on your gear, there is no reason not to at this point. You can even buy cheap augments that give a good boost to damage.
And they are on the player shop, you don’t even need to buy the high-end augments. If you can’t buy them now. You can buy something cheaper as I said before.
You can go after fashion when you have gear ready for content and such. The whole thing “my gear is not strong but I want to run content or urgent quests” is fine but to a certain point. Once we get better augments and better gear and harder quests or urgent quests like Sodam where you can fail, that’s when it will no longer it will become fine.
Your Gear level
Another important thing to worry about besides augments, and is the level of your gear but the higher your level on gear will unlock more augment slots
Level 0 to 19 = default 2 augment slots. 0/2
Level 20 to 39 = unlocks third augment slot. 0/3
Level 40 = all 4 augment slots unlocked 0/4
This is why it is best to upgrade your gear asap, as you can reap the rewards
You want to aim for +40 which at the moment is the max level for gear. If you can not hit max level, you can try +30 to +35 which is in that level range. You want to get the max level so your flat attack and flat defense is high as they can be, which can also be boosted by augments
+0 is bad, +10 not as bad as 0 but still bad.
+20 “bare minimum”, +25 slightly better than +20 but you want to go higher.
+30 to +35 is better than the +25 but you want to get to max level to make full use of units/weapons but it’s good enough till you can reach +40.
+40 is what you aim for to get the most out of your gear, I made that clear. And it will boost your battle power? If you can’t hit +40 then +30 or +35 is fine. Every little bit counts and it adds up fast.
If you can’t play for longer than an hour, go farm materials and grinders, as you will need a lot of them. It should go without saying but get fodder items. Exp weapons, weapons with no value or units with no value to enhance your weapon.
+0 to +20 may as well be 0 as levels go, imo. If you can, go for +40. if you can not, +30 and even +35 as a temporary spot is good enough until you can get to +40 before we get probably 20 more levels for gear.
Leveling up is good
This will be a short bit. This is just something I want to touch on. Levels are important. It should go without saying but getting to level 20 before the winter update will give you a good headstart.
Being max level may not seem like a big deal, but it adds up over time, and what seems small and unimportant will matter later on, and will be the difference between you staying alive or dying in an urgent quest / giga battle.
Level 1
Level 5
Level 10
Level 15
Level 18 – aim for this.
Level 20 – good
Level 21 – 25 winter update
Level 30 winter update
Level 35 winter update
Aim for level 18, at the very least. If you don’t like leveling, stop at level 18 or if you get to level 20. Just try to be a higher level than 15.
Please farm exp (fodder units and weapons) and get your units and weapon to +40 and get to the main class to level 20 and get a subclass to level 15 or 20.
There are people in the witching hour guild that can give you advice on what you need to do to make the most out of your gear. I should stress that if you do ask for help rather it be Aluria, Arisu, Daestar, Zargon, Elpha. You do the following:
You listen to their advice. Yes, it hurts to hear that your gear sucks but better to hear now instead of later on when people are doing new content and you won’t be able to. So please, if you want help with gear and tips, listen. Takedown notes.
Understand that you will need mesta, augments, and +40 gear (units) and weapon with potential lv 4 and affix attack lv 3 or higher. BUT ask whoever is helping you what is the best affix for you.
I say all of this because we got a new region coming soon with the Winter update which will raise the level cap, and by proxy, may raise the unit and weapon level caps as well as the augments cap, but I can’t be sure.
This is why you need to make sure you are geared and ready. Because later on, we might have an Urgent Quest where you can fail if everyone wipes out (everyone dies)
Mining base is a good urgent quest to see how tanky you are and how much damage you can dish out. As much as I hate mining base, it can be good to see the following:
Your dodge/block skills
learn what your high damage low pp skills are
are you DPS / or support?
how well you can follow orders when asked to do something
are you useful in action?
How good your defense is, and can you take more than 4 hits?
Learn if you are a DPS/secondary DPS / Support or buffer
It’s best to learn your class/subclass in a controlled area before going to test it in a non-controlled area.
Are you good / bad at luring mobs?
It is good to learn a class because like I said, there is no telling what kind of Urgent Quest may await us, it’s good to find out what you are good at, and being able to use 1 to no revives is a plus since later UQ’s will put you to the test in some way.
Let me say this. I am in no way a pro in Phantasy Star Online: New Genesis. I am a Force/techer who enjoys the game. And lover of cultured “wholesome” art, but let’s keep it real here. It’s lewd.
When you have got your gear fixed and ready for anything, you can spend mesta on fashion and other junk.
Also, if you wish to learn how to party up with friends or other guild members without misfires, please refer to my interactive guide on how to do MPA’s or private queues with friends, which is here: https://onychaos.itch.io/how-to-mpa-queue-lazy-guide.
Hello, hello. I think we need to change some things around here. Some small and some big. And players need to do their part as well instead of being quiet as a mine. Given that in a few months we will get the winter update, these changes will be needed. And this gives me a reason to say some things.
These are just some personal opinions I have. I want to make that clear. :P
Witching Hour Ideas
So, I have been hearing this in the past, and currently. There is always one bad apple in a guild that rots the rest. However, sometimes that may not be the case, and I want to try a new system.
Is player racist/a problem / an issue? And did you receive more than 1 report about them from more than one member? (if yes) → Give no warning → Watch to see for proof or reports hold any weight (if caught in act and proof has weight) → talk with admins and think well or take action.
(if no)
take no action as there is smoke but no fire. (watch to see if anything changes)
I feel this may be somewhat a better way of handling reports from other players since acting too soon can cause some people to feel the witching hour is not a place they can be without someone being on their case.
But have to remember that players and some people are more sensitive to being told to do something or being warned, and may end up leaving without a word.
So, it is here. The Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis update, and I want to share my thoughts on it. I had time to play around with it, so I’m clear to talk about it and share my thoughts and opinions.
So the October update was “big” And I want to talk about them and whatnot.
Mag skins
So, while not an important feature for Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis: NGS. The mag skin feature was added to Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis so that users can use any mag skin of their choosing, and assuming you have mag skins from Base Phantasy Star Online 2, you can use them here. Again, not an important update but beats staring at a blank mag device.
Bouncer class
Along with the update, we got a “new” class, even though, the “new” class is already in base Phantasy Star Online 2 as a buffer class with boots? And I tried bouncer in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, I found the class disappointing but at the same time, I was not as hyped or waiting for bouncer as the other players.
With Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. A lot of the melee or close-range classes are not too fun for me. Hunter was kind of fun before I learned about Force class which blew every other class out of the water, for me. Bouncer with boots is not bad but double swords or sabers is not my thing.
Ah, the ongoing drought of no content in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. Always fun, no, not really. See, it has got so bad that even the “Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is not dying, guys.” Keroppi has changed his tune. Although, very late to the party with making the video. I don’t understand the lad here, sometimes.
Where do I begin? I have so many thoughts towards Phantasy Star Online 2 / Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis because I spent well over 300+ hours playing Phantasy Star Online 2, and to see the state that it is in. It hurts, as someone who used to play other things, like genshin impact, Elsword, and fate go. It is not a good feeling.
The start
My experience with Phantasy Star Online 2 has been mixed at the start, but slowly got better over time. At first, I did not enjoy base Phantasy Star Online 2’s moment, and combat engine. It felt too stiff and slow for my liking. The affix system felt too arcade and harsh. Almost like a resident evil 1 game in how old systems were handled. User-friendly was not the main feature here. And while I still feel the same.
But over time, I grew to love or stand the combat engine, and other features. And with time, Base Phantasy Star Online 2 became a favorite of my MMORPG’s I enjoy playing. So to sum things up.
Hated the base Phantasy Star Online 2 start, but later on grew to love it, barring the affix system. It was a great MMORPG, and it was a game I could tell others to play Phantasy Star Online 2 because it was fun and worth the time.
Hey, it is time for the Witching Hour show “review”, and I don’t want to hold any punches. This will be my experience and how I see the guild. And maybe point out flaws in the guild and the members. The members are something I want to point out, some members can get out of hand, or ruin the experience for others. Just because I am a guild admin in Witching Hour, does not mean I will hold back.
Let’s make sure we are super clear here. These are opinions, and my experience with the guild, these are not a fact but just my thoughts on how I see the guild as a whole. Have to make this clear because some people think opinion = fact.
Editor’s note: I wanted to make a review but this turned out to be more of a free-form rant/thoughts posts, you can look at it as a review but it’s not one, lol.
What is Witching Hour?
Witching Hour was created on march 9th of 2021 by Elphaba.
The Witching Hour is one of many guilds in Phantasy Star Online 2 that offers to help out others, assuming others do their part. But this goes for most guilds, to be honest. And the witching hour is both a social and content guild.
If you ever want people to speak with, you can join a guild, and for the most part, everyone is social in Witching Hour. And if you like to do content, the Witching Hour members have you covered, assuming they are not lazy and are around to help. But they are around to help, most of the time. And I feel the Witching Hour is a good guild for new players.
So, it is over. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis beta. There was a 3 day close beta for pso2: NGS, and during this time, you were meant to find bugs, play around, and do as much as you can, and hope the servers don’t shit the bed. And the Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis beta servers did that from day one up to day three. On the final day, the experience was much better than on day 2.
Alright. Where do I begin with this post? Playing pso2: NGS with some Witching Hours members and mastakirby has been interesting. I should get my thoughts collected since I plan to add this blog to the NGS survey.
Quick edit: Hi, everything you see here is an opinion, and not a fact. This is how I see things and a reminder that opinions are good to have. With that out the way. Here my silly post.
The classes in base pso2 were ok. The one that I played the most that stood out the most was “hunter” this class has a lot of weight behind the attacks, it is slow, heavy, and anything but fun. And this was a class I got to level 95 and stopped because it was not fun. To be fair, all the classes felt slow on purpose, well the base classes, but that is my opinion
and just playing two classes, hunter and gunner. I can say they feel fun to play. Hunter is fast and fun, has better attacks, and can even counter an attack. And with gunner, it is crazy how much everything was changed, for the better. As a gunner and hunter, you can use swords, knuckles, twin machine guns, and an assault rifle.
You have so many options, and you are not stuck to a class weapon set like pso2. You can mix-match weapons from what it seems but this is the beta impression, and things can change.
The point is, classes are fun to play. They are no longer slow or heavy. Each class is a good time, and they left a good impression on me.
Affixing
My most awaited feature, affixing. We all know that affixing in base pso2 is pretty bad, and that is putting it nicely. Affixing was gambling but instead of losing money, you are losing time.
Pso2 affixing is just farm weapons with certain affixes and hope it has the affixes you need to get a stronger affix. And you can wait for pso2 day to give you a 20 % boost with affixing or take a chance and hope you can get the affix without fail. And as result, you will feel sad or happy depending on the result, but most of the time, you will feel sad.
Hmm, I need to think about how to start this out. So, how I joined this guild was the same way I joined the Thundercry guild in elsword, that is, being away from the keyboard. I was away at the time, looking up how to get better gear in Phantasy Star Online 2, and listening to music.
Then the moment I tabbed back into the game, I saw that I got a pso2 invite to a guild called “Witching Hour.” I had thought about declining the invite since I and this unknown guild would lose nothing. But I remember that I don’t have a guild, and if the users turn out to be shitty or pso2 elitists. I can leave the guild guilt-free.
The guild when I joined was interesting and still is interesting. You know what they say? First impressions are everything since they can help create a bond with someone or not. Most of the impressions I got from most of the users in “Witching Hour” have been positive. Now every guild will have those users that are full of themselves, elitists, or both.
