Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis October Update

So, it is here. The Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis update, and I want to share my thoughts on it. I had time to play around with it, so I’m clear to talk about it and share my thoughts and opinions.

So the October update was “big” And I want to talk about them and whatnot.

  1. Mag skins

So, while not an important feature for Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis: NGS. The mag skin feature was added to Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis so that users can use any mag skin of their choosing, and assuming you have mag skins from Base Phantasy Star Online 2, you can use them here. Again, not an important update but beats staring at a blank mag device.

  1. Bouncer class

Along with the update, we got a “new” class, even though, the “new” class is already in base Phantasy Star Online 2 as a buffer class with boots? And I tried bouncer in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, I found the class disappointing but at the same time, I was not as hyped or waiting for bouncer as the other players.

With Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. A lot of the melee or close-range classes are not too fun for me. Hunter was kind of fun before I learned about Force class which blew every other class out of the water, for me. Bouncer with boots is not bad but double swords or sabers is not my thing.

And all the other classes got buffed in power.

  1. Trigger like quests

So, the trigger-like quest can be started with keys. For gold keys, you get them from mission pass, if you use a gold pass? Or just from farming monsters, and since these are on par as a rare drop, it will have the same jingle when you get a rare drop, so you may get it or something else.

Golden triggers are where you farm exp gear that is set to +20. And purple triggers are (at the time of this post) five or six giga battles back to back within a time limit, the faster you can clear, the better your experience will be at the end, and the drops are pretty good too. Purple triggers seem to be for users with the current high-end augments, gear. If you fail, you will still clear but the prize pool is greater if you can clear.

And here the whole mentality where you don’t have to worry about pulling your weight or people don’t need you to have good gear to help is thrown out the window. You get 4 users for purple triggers. You get five heals and one revive per kill to stock up on.

In other words, you need to bring users who can do damage, bring deadweights would not help you in any way. This is where you would need to find the right units/weapon or weapons, and classes for you. +40 or bust. These giga trials are close to the “end game” for where we are at in Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis.

Little Timmy won’t do a darn thing with +20 units, more so +20 giga units. Little Timmy is useless here now.

  1. Mission pass

A new reason to log in to Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. I think? You can do daily quests for mission pass rewards. The best reward for Free to play players in mission pass is the shop pass but that’s about 2 weeks of doing daily and weekly quests.

Mission pass is ok. I will still do it but base PSO2 had a better pass. But PSO2 NGS will probably have better mission pass rewards but for now, they are okay to pass.

  1. Mining Base +

If this Urgent Quest was not bad already, it has been upgraded with 2 extra levels and this makes the Urgent Quest a semi end game quest. The UQ is meant for players to be on their “A” game, and even that might not be enough.

Getting an “S” is not easy, and it becomes a pain if the following happens:

  1. People failing to protect towers
  2. getting bad spawns with enemies and barriers
  3. ignoring towers and tower leeches
  4. people trying to get points while monsters are attacking towers
  5. users go for boss monsters and ignore enemies

Just to name a few things. If you are in a party or not, follow the captain’s orders or watch the minimap and try your best. I don’t like doing this UQ. When people work together and follow orders, it works great, when they don’t and do whatever, it fails sometimes.

  1. Final thoughts?

I would say the update is good. If you are one of the Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis players that cries “no content.” You got something to do for a good while. If you are in the same boat as me. You probably don’t care since you got better games that fill your void.

Oh yeah, I loved that since this update, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis has hard crashes to desktop or CTD, and infinite loading screen, for me. The CTD has happened a lot more than the loading bug.

This update I feel is better for users who eat, sleep, breathe Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. If you are more of a casual player of Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, this update might not be anything to pull you back in at the moment. It may be worth checking out.
